ENTRIES FOR THE REGATTA.
Judging by the muster of boating-men, the interest evinced, and the number of boats entered at the Pier Hotel last evening, the regatta for 1375 promises to be a great success—provided, of course, that the weather proves favorable. For the first race on the programme —pair-oar skiffs,' to be rowed by juniors—the Star .Club entered one boat without a name, the Wellington Rowing Club entering two, the Napi-napi aud the Alexandra Limp. For first-class yachts—the second race—there were three entries, Mr. Fuhrmau’s Xarifa, the Garibaldi, and Mr. Tabuteau’s Red Jacket. Four ships in harbor entered boats for the ships’ gig race: the Howrah, Soukar, Langstone, and Jessie Readman. The event of the day—the four-oar gig race, open to all comers—induced four entries, the Queen’s Club’s Eclipse, the Wellington Rowing Club’s Transit, and the Star Club’s Queen Mab. Four boats also entered as second-class yachts, viz., Mr. Turnbull’s Fanny Goddard, Mr. Gannaway’s Esk, Mr. Renner’s Brown Beetle, and Captain Grimstone’s Grace Darling. Junioi's in four-oar gigs entered foxir boats—the Transit representing the Wellington Bowing Club ;. the Queen Mab, the Star Club; the Electric Spark, the Telegraph Club ; aud the Eclipse, the Queen’s Club. The seventh race —for ship’s cutters-—will be open for entry till to-night, at the Pier Hotel, the Hoxvi'ah and Soukar only entering last evening. The volunteers and firemen have entered thi'eeboats, viz., the Queen Mab, Eclipse, and Venus. Eorthe whaleboat race there were also three entiles—the Titokowaru from the Star Club’s shed, The Cure by the Wellington Rowing Club, and the third a whaleboat to be roxved by men fx-om the man-of-war Rosario. The Wellington Rowing Club entered two skiffs, the Alexandra Limp and the Napi-napi, for the senior pair-oar skiff race, the St;r Chib representing itself by one boat, which as yet is unnamed. The four-oar outx-igger i-ace fell to the ground, the Stella, by the Star Club, being the only entry for this event. The eleventh, and last race, that for scullers, had the most entries, no fewer than five competitors intending to contest this event : Cornish will row ,thc Moa, Turnbull the Sunbeam, Gx-iffiths the Meteor, aud there are txvo nameless*' scullers from the Star Club. Altogether, there were thirty-eight entries for the eleven races on the programme. The committee last night did not decide as to the several courses to be rowed and sailed over by rowing boats aud yachts respectively. On the moi'ning of the regatta such courses will be laid off as will accoi-d most favorably with the wind.
