The thirty-fifth anniversary of the foundation of the colony will be celebrated in Wellington on Friday next, when, in addition to the sports of the day, there will bo a banquet in the evening at the Odd Fellows' Hall. It is to be hoped that the weather will be piopitious, and that everything may come off successfully. Touching the banquet, we have to express the hope that it will be largely attended. The founders of the colony are growing old; many of them have already passed away, and it is most desirable that the memory of the early struggles of the pioneer settlers should be revived for the encouragement of those who lwe more recently come to New Zealand. ' The programme will, no doubt, be sufficiently varied co afford scope for mutual interchange of thought between all classes of colonists, and we note with pleasuro that the committee have resolved not to limit the attendance to a comparative few by confining it to "old colonists." The fathers and founders of the country are entitled to respect and honor, but they should not monopolise all the pleasure t upon a festive occasion like that of Anniversary Day
