PHILADELPHIA EXHIBITION.

On the 24th of last August Mr. G. C. Levey, at the request of the Premier of Victoria, addressed a letter to the Secretai'y of the Philaphia Exhibition, asking for information on certain points the nature of which will he gathered from the following reply:— “Philadelphia, 16th October, 1874.

“ Sir, —Your communication of 25th August, addressed to Mr. Norton, has been referred to me for answer. I take great pleasure in sending you the information you desire. Enclosed you will find the general rules and regulations of the exhibition, which will furnish you with answers to several of your questions. If you prefer, Australia and Victoria could be grouped together, and such an arrangement would be satisfactory to us. On this subject we desire early information, as it is our intention to apportion the space among the several nations by Ist February next. Negotiations are now being made with the railways leading from the principal ports of entry to this city for very favorable reductions of rates of transportation on all articles intended for the exhibition. lam authorised in sayiug that such an arrangement will he made very shortly. The United States Commission will erect the exhibition building'. No charge will be made for space, but exhibitors .will be required to supply their own fittings, &o. In regard to your proposition to erect a refresh-ment-room for the purpose of selling Australian wines and provisions, I can only say that while no arrangements hsve yet been made for refreshment stands, or rules adopted concerning them, I have no doubt but that such a privilege will be granted you, subject f o the regulations governing like privileges. A system of awards ia now under consideration, and as soon as approved you will he advised of the plan and character of the same. I shall he. glad at all times to give you information, and to facilitate the interests of your country at the exhibition. —Yours, &c., “ A. T.
