CRICKET.

The return, match between the Star and Pahautanui Cricket Clubs was played on the Basin Reserve on Saturday afternoon last. Considerable interest was manifested in the match, a number of spectators attending to witness it. The result was in favor of the city club, which made the match a very onesided affair, having beaten their opponents in one innings, with 47 runs to spare. Mace made the respectable score of 68, with Mason next, who placed 38 to the credit of the Star's. Thompson made the highest score (38) on the Pahautauui side., Appended are the scores : STAR CLUB. After the match had been concluded, the t/ahautanui cricketers were entertained at dinner hy the Star Club. The repast was provided by host Urwin, of the Post-office Hotel. During the evening, which was very pleasantly passed, the usual toasts were proposed and responded to, the company dispersing early, so as to allow of the country cricketers arriving at their homes before midnight.
