LYTTELTON, Wednesday. A heavy easterly sea is rolling into the harbor. The Peerless, East Lothian, Auckland, and Helena (the latter for Kaipara), with fifteen tons of flour, are windbound. Cleared Out: Elizabeth Graham, for London, with 3254 bales of wool and 20 bales of skins, etc. The cargo is valued at £83,000. The time ball may be used to-day for rating chronometers. A chronometer true on Greenwich time should show 12h. 30m. when the ball drops. Any difference is error, pins or minus, of chronometer. The steamer Phiebe, Captain Worsp, sailed at 1.45 p m yesterday for Picton, Nelson, Taranaki, and Manukau. The schooner Aspasia proceeds to the Kaikouras for a cargo of wool. The ship Jessie Readman is rapidly filling up with wool for London. The schooner Ruby arrived from Waipapa yesterday afternoon with a cargo of wool. The A.S.P. Company's steamer Southern Cross left Lyttelton for Wellington at 2 p.m. yesterday. She may, therefore, be expected to arrive about noon today. The fine light south-east wind which prevailed yesterday prevented the barque Adamant getting to sea. The outer pilot, however, will get her away as soon as the wind shifts to the opposite quarter ; but the wind is rather uncertain at this period of the year. The Adamant has a full cargo—principally of wool—the principal shippers being Messrs. Levin and Co., who forward to London 150 S bales; Messrs. Krull and Co., 1099 bales: Mr. Edward Pearce, 339 bales; Messrs Turnbull and Co., 230 i bales ; and a number of minor shippers, 708 bales, making in all a total of 3881 } bales. The shipment of tallow is rather small, there being not more than 100 casks on board. Phormium tenax is not mentioned on the ship's manifest, an omission which has not characterised an outwards manifest of .in English ship from Wellington for many years. Her cargo is valued at £60,000. Two passengersMessrs. Alison and Wiltshire—proceed to England by the Adamant. The contractor for launching the stranded bnganttne Emulous (Mr. John Bezett) is making satisfactory progress with the work. We yesterday paid a visit to her, and found that she had been raised on blocks, and slewed round bow on to the sea. The contractor is determined to go about the work in a proper manner. His intention is to place ways under her 130 ft. long by 12ft. broad. She has been raised three or four feet above the level of the shingle, which will give her a good run down when they launch her. The Emulous, notwithstanding the fact that she has been stranded no less than three -times since she was first launched, is a strong vessel, and if she had to put to sea to-morrow, we are given to understand she would not make an inch of water. Should the weather prove favorable, she will be ready for launching in a week.— North Otago Times. Launch of a Cu.vabd Liner.--A few days ago a large screw-steamer, built for Messrs. J. and G. Burns, for their Atlantic line, was hunched from the yard of Messrs. J. and G. Thomson, Clydebank, Dalmuir. The vessel was named the Scythia by Miss Alice Trotter, and vas launched by Miss Amy Trotter, the twin daughters of the Hon. Mrs. Trotter, and among others present at the ceremony were Mr. John Burns, the Hon. Mrs. Trotter, Mrs. Thomas Skinner (Glasgow), and Mr. James E. Thomson. The dimensions of the ship are .-—length, 455 feet; breadth, 42 feet 6 inches: depth, 36 feet. Her tonnage is 4550, and horse-power 600. The Scythia is sister ship to the Bothnia, which was launched in March last.and has made two successful voyages acroßS the Atlantic, and i 3 now on her third trip. The vessel is fitted up in excellent style. and has accommodation for over 300 cabin and 800 steerage passengers. After the launch, which was a very pretty one, and was witnessed by a considerable number of people, a few gentlemen met in the offices of the builders, and drank success to the Scythia. This was the 37th vessel launched > for the same owners, and the Messrs. Thomson have another vessel, also for the Messrs. Burns, to be named the Cherbourg, on the stocks, and she will soon be ready for launching.— Glasgow Herald.
