The telegraphic wires however were working badly yesterday, in consequence of the state of the atmosphere, and it was late last night before we received the following message : REUTER'S TELEGRAMS. Hanna, M.L.A., at Benalla, the Premier in his speech recognised constitutional and electoral reform, and adjustment of the incidence of taxation, as necessities of legislation next session. It is rumored that there are dissensions amongst the Ministry. It is likely that the trustees will shortly open the Public Museum and Art Galleries on Sundays. The recent trips of the People's Sunday Recreation Steamer, the Golden Crown, have been successful. On the sth instant the thermometer in the shade registered lOldeg. Ministers gave a picnic on Wednesday, in lieu of the usual whitebait dinner. Arrangements have been made for starting a labor bureau. Dr. Bowen has been elected President of the Medical Society. The certificate of Captain Dundas, of the P. and O. steamer Ellora, as exempt master, has been suspended for three months, for the late grounding of that vessel on the Pope's Eye Shoal. H.M.S. Barracouta arrived from Sydney this morning. Nothing has been done as yet about Sullivan. New wheat has been sold at up to ss. 3Jd., and new flour at £ll 10s. Oats are firm. There is an improved demand for teas at an advance. Hennessy's case brandy is quoted at 28s. 9d. NEW SOUTH WALBS. Sydney, Jan. 7. The elections are nearly all completed, and Parliament meets on the 27th instant. The test debate will be on the Ministerial minutes with reference to the release of Gardiner. It is considered likely that the Ministry will sustain a defeat. It is rumored that Sir J. Innes, the At-torney-General, will be made a Judge of the Supreme Court. Tenders for a permanent mail contract, via San Francisco, will be called for next month; and a special meeting of the Australian Steam Navigation Company will be held to authorise the directors to tender for the service. In a fracas at Newcastle a Chinese cook stabbed a seaman named Webber in the chest. The Wonga Wonga sails for Auckland tomorrow. SOUTH AUSTRALIA. Adelaide, January 7. Sir George Bowen, on the arrival of the mail steamer off Glenelg, visited Adelaide. He was nearly left behind, as when he returned to Glenelg the mail steamer had started. Sir George Bowen had a three-mile chase in the steam-launch, when the Ceylon stopped her engines and took him on board. The Hon. Mr. Waterhouse, of Wellington, was a passenger by the Ceylon. The .Germans resident in the colony have issued a political programme, which includes a. liberal laud law, compulsory education, payment of members, and assisted immigration. The Australind, from Wellington, arrived at Newcastle on the 4th instant.
