THE VOLUNTEERS.
The Wellington "Volunteer Artillery fired at the Polhill Gully butts yesterday morning at half-past five o'clock, in the match with the Wanganui Rifle Volunteers, who fired at Wanganui on the 21st of last month. Eight men were selected, and also an emergency man, but at the appointed time only seven, including the emergency man, turned up, Gunners Webb and Batkin being absent. The match, however, was fired, the emergency man (Gunner Dixon) taking Gunner Webb's place, whilst Gunner Batkin wa3 credited with the average, which brought the Wellington score up to 404 points, as against 460 points made by Wanganui—a difference of 56 points. Appended are the scores : WANGANUI.
