Manawatu, which was to have sailed for Wanganui yesterday afternoon, has been detained till four o'clock this morning. Mr. Evans, chief officer of the Taranaki, has assumed the command of this vessel. The steamer Otago, Captain McLean, steamed away hut evening for Nelson, West Coast, and Melbourne. After leaving Nelson the Otago will land and embark excursionists in the vicinity of the Para Para coal and iron mine, arrangements having been made in Nelson for the services of a small steamer as a, tender. The s.s. Taranaki, Captain Wheeler, arrived at the wharf at 4.45 p.m. yesterday, after a long and boisterous passage of twenty-four hours from Lyttelton. The Taranaki left Port Cooper at 5 p.m. yesterday, with a N.W. breeze, which increased to a gale ahoitly after clearing Godlcy Heads, and continued till within a few miles of Wellington.
