The time ball may be used to-day for rating chronometers. A chronometer true on Greenwich time should show 12h. 30m. when the ball drops. Any difference is error, plus or minus. Port Phillip Bay. —lt is notified to pilots, masters, and others navigating the west channel of Port Phillip Bay, Victoria, that on and after the Ist of January, 1875, the lightship in the west channel will exhibit only one light at the mainmast head. The light on the foremast will be discontinued. The s.s. Rangatira left Napier at 1 p.m. on Sunday. She had some difficulty in crossing the bar, and experienced strong head winds and heavy sea from midnight of that day till arrival at Fort Nicholson at 5 p.m yesterday.
