ANNIVERSARY DAY.

Sir, —Can you inform an old identity what has come over the spirit and enterprise once so notable in the boating men of this city ? Are wc to have no regatta? If so, all I can say is, the boating men of Wellington should never again ask the public for a subscription, or any other assistance. There is in Wellington at the present time the most expensive plant of any Boating Club in the colony, and one of the said clubs numbers about one hundred members. Surely there must be a screw loose somewhere. What has come over the commodore, the vlcc-commodoro, and the indefatigable secretary, of whom the public have heard so much during the last twelve months ? I am informed the Wellington Rowing Club are prepared to compete for the following events, should there bo a regatta;—Four-oared outrigger, batswing, whaleboat, pair-oared outrigger,, skiff, sculler, &c. So ranch to their credit, say X, after being snubbed at a public meeting some time ago for their presumption in daring to send a crew to represent their club at Canterbury. I hope, when next the secretary calls a meeting of the Regatta Committee, to see that some of the old colonists take part in this, their only reminder of olden times —I am, &c.. Old Identity.
