[Press Telegraph Agency.] Auckland, Thursday. The girl named Brown, who fractured her skull by falling over a cliff, has died. Cecilia Allen, - the girl charged with arson attempted to break out of the gaol. She had got possession of a hammer, with which she picked away at the wall of her coll until a large portion of it was knocked down, when she was discovered.

Napier, Thursday. The Supreme Court, in its civil jurisdiction, only held a formal sitting to-day, no case being tried. The only case of public interest, that of Lydia Phillips against Captain Knight and Dr. Dale, of the ship Bebington, was settled out of court, by the payment by the Captaiu (who was too ill to appear) of .£3O. His Honor Mr. Justice Johnston will be entertained by the Napier Club at dinner this evening, and leaves for Wellington by the Bangatira to-morrow, at 10 o'clock a.m. Lyttelton, Thursday. The immigrants by the Pleiades were all lauded this afternoon. There were 318 souls embarked at home, but ten deaths occurred during the voyage —four being adults and six infants. PICTON, Thursday. The Supreme Court was opened this morning by his Honor Sir, Justice Richmond, true bills were found in four cases.

Ddnedin, Thursday. To-day being the half-yearly Presbyterian fast day, is observed a close holiday. The weather is very bad. The Guardian, in commenting on the release of Dodd, second mate of the Oueco, says this state of tilings is disgraceful. The common interests of humanity cry out for its reform. It is not only necessary to provide for the trial of British subjects accused of committing crimes similar to Dodd’s in parallel circumstances, but to establish some means of reaching all ruffians who disregard the law of God and man on the neutral ground of the high seas. The Bluff, Thursday. Arrived: The Alexandria,barque, from the Auckland Islands, in connection with the German Transit of Venus expedition party. Captain Beek, one of the scientific party who arrived with the vessel, reports that they did not observe the sun till ten minutes after the ingress had taken place. Then the day was beautifully fine throughout. The party succeeded in talcing 150 photographs. The vessel has merely called at the Bluff for the purpose of comparing chronometers with the American party, after which she again proceeds to the Islands, and remains there for two mouths taking further observations. Invercargill, Thursday. The Supreme Court sittings were commenced to-day. Only one case was heard—that of Brennan, charged with attempting the murder of the girl Mary Hall. The prisoner pleaded guilty, and was remanded for sentence. Hokitika, Thursday. The election of Mayor has resulted as follows :—E. C. Tabart, 253 ; J. Sevan, 178.
