WAIRARAPA AND EAST COAST PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.
(BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPHJ [From our Sfecial Reporter.] Greytown, Tuesday. The annual exhibition of stock, farm implements, &c., under the auspices of this society, took place to-day on the Wairarapa race-course, Tauherenikau. For some time past, owing to the rapid gx-owth of the district, great interest has been felt iu this society, and hopes were entertained that it would prove most successful. These anticipations wex-e fully realised, the show, to-day being x-egarded as the finest ever held in the district. Bain fell heavily in the morning, but later in the day the weather cleared up and became very fine. Upwards of six hundred people were present, all, apparently, very much interested in the exhibition, There were one hundred and fifty-five entries in all classes ; and the show of horses and sheep was regarded as being remarkably fine. The first prize in the class for di-aught horses was awarded to Dainty Davie. Brian O’Lynn, a carriage-horse, imported from Melbourne by Mr. Richard Barton, excited great admiration. Mr. Hayward’s Southern Chief took the first prize for thoroughbred entix-es. Mr. Bussell’s bull Butterfly obtained the first prize in the class for short-horns, and Mr. McMaster’s. Eclipse the second prize. . The.short-hom cow Candour was adjudged the best in her class. - - - Mr. George Hunter, of Wellington, who had made seventeen entries iu various 'classes, was awarded six first and five second prizes, in the various classes of sheep. ’ ' The other chief prize-takers for sheep were Messrs. Barton, Watexixouse, Phax-azyn, Bidwell, and Lowes. . .. The flower show was only, moderately successful.’
