THE THEATRE ROYAL.
A dramatised version of "Ouida's" celebrated novel, " Under Two Flags" was produced at' the Theatre Royal last night, under the title of " Cigarette," and met with considerable success. The chief incidents of the novel are fairly carried out, and aa the readers of " Ouida" are legion, it is unnecessary to recapitulate the plot, which we have already given; suffice it to say that the burden of .the play falls upon Miss Clara Stephenson:(Cigarette), Mr. C. H. Burford (Bertie .Cecil), and Mr. J. P. Hydes (Rake) who did their best in the parts allotted to them, and manifestly to the satisfaction of a larger audience than has assembled in the Theatre for some time. Some excellent new scenery has been painted for the occasion by ■Mr.. Charles Massey, and altogether the appointments are of a very creditable description. Miss Jessie Raymond was called upon at the last moment, and played very satisfactorily the little part of Venetia Corona, in consequence of the sudden indisposition of Miss Howard. The performance will be repeated this evening, and should command a full house.
