The Agricultural Show was not considered a success in point of exhibits, but it and the Caledonian sports were attended by thousands of persona. Grahamstown, Monday. A correspondent of the Advertiser says that the opening of the Ohiuemuri railway is now almost un fail accompli. A meeting was held to-day, at which Te Hira and other leading Maori chiefs gave consent to the opening. The Church of England bazaar realised £4OO. It was opened again to-day. To-day has been observed as a general holiday, with sports and horse-racing. The gold returns on Saturday were as follows ; —Queen of Beauty, 9140z5.; Moanatairi, 302 ozs.; Bird-in-Hand, 109ozs. Westport, Monday. J umping is going on actively on the railway reserve. Great annoyance is expressed at the General Government declining to grant leases to the present occupants of premises built on the reserve, for which rent is now received by the Provincial Government, “for the benefit of whom it may concern." The s.b. Kennedy, six days out from Nelson, has not yet shown up. . Christchurch, Monday. The following are the acceptances for handicapia :—Free Handicap ; Yatterina, 9st. 71bs.; Batter, 7st. 131 b.; Exile, 7st. 41b.; Marvel, 7st. 41b.; Alice Grey, 7at.; Remnant, fist. 91b. Hurdle Race ; Alice Grey, lOst. 71b.; Theodore, 9s. 111 b. Wainui is a strong favorite for the Derby; Rang! second favorite. Traitor and Templeton are about equal favorites forO.J.C. handicap. Tambourini is the favorite for the Canterbury Cup; Traitor close second favorite. Dunedin, Monday. In consequence of the holiday, which was generally observed, nothing was done in town. Thousands "of persona attended the Foresters’ fete at St. Leonard’s.
