RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

Tuesday, November 3. (Before J. C. Crawford, Esq., 8.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Harriet Beeves, Henry Jackson, John Jones, and Brands Plummer were charged with this offence. The last-named person pleaded that an epileptic fit was mistaken hy the police for drunkenness. His Worship gave him the benefit of the novel excuse, and dismissed him with a caution. A VAGRANT. Mary Lazary, well-known to the police, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labor. A DESERTER. George Smith, recently discharged from gaol, for disobedience of orders, and who did not return to bi« ship (The .Douglas), was again sentenced to gaol for a period of four weeks. BREACH OF MUNICIPAL BYE-LAWS. The case against Mr. David Anderson was again adjourned, in order to allow him time to remedy the nuisance complained of. The defendant promised to attend to the matter at once. DISOBEDIENCE ON THE HIGH SEAS. Captain Buth, of the ship Helen Denny, charged four of the seamen with .wilful disobedience of lawful orders on the high seas. jVIt. OHivier, who appeared for the prosecution, requested an adjournment till Thursday next, which was granted. CIVIL CASE. An unimportant case comprised all the civil business before the Court.
