It would appear that the sea was not quite so kind as the authorities of New South Wales to the pardoned but exiled bushranger Gardinei\ He was. a passenger from Newcastle to Hongkong by the barque Charlotte Andrews, which was reported by telegram a few days ago as having been lost in the China Seas. Whether Gardiner—or, indeed, any of the crew or passengers escaped a watery grave has'not as yet been reported. Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Bates, well known on the English and Californiaii stages, are about to visit Wellington and the Southern ports professionally. » Madame Anna Bishop is expected to be a passenger to Sydney by the next mail steamer from San Francisco.
