COMMERCIAL.

The transactions of the past week call for no comment. There has been but little doing in the import trade, dullness generally appearing to prevail throughout the Province, and prices as a rule are unaltered from former quotations, althongh showing a rather depressed tendency. In Colonial produce, flour is in comparatively light stock just now, and Oamaru flour is worth £l3 to £l3 ss. per ton for sacks; Canterbury do., £l2 19s. to £l3 ; and as considerable shipments are now on the way, there is not much prospect of higher quotations. Oats have advanced, and are firm at ss. 3d. to ss. Gd. per bushel, stocks being light. Maize, in moderate demand, at ss. Od.; ample stocks. We report no Improvement in the butter trade, the demand for keg butter having almost ceased. Holders are asking Is. to Is. 2d. per lb. Cheese is in fair demand at to 9d. per lb. for prime Canterbury. Bacon and hams, Bd. to Is., according to condition and cure. At the Hutt Market, Mr. J. H. Wallace sold cows at £5 10s. each ; two-year olds, mixed lot, at £3 10s. per head. Horse stock, £7 to £lO each. Considerable competition for cattle. Stock is evidently on the rise; there is a demand for store cattle.
