TASMANIA.

Parliament has been prorogued by the Governor to the 15 th April. His Excellency, in his speech, gracefully alluded to the cordial relations which existed between himself, the Parliament, and the people, and said that he would always take a warm interest in Tasmania.

Among the measures passed by the late Parliament, to which the assent of His Excellency has been given, were- the following : —lleal Property in Cases of Intestacy; Wrecks Enquiry ; Masters’, Mates’, and Engineers’ Exainination and Certificate ; Marine Board Act Amendment; Customs Duties Act Amendment ; Custody of Infants ; Matrimonial Causes ; Immigration Act Amendment ; School Houses Erection ; Tasman’s Peninsula Laud Alienation ; Bank’s Straits Marine Survey ; Babbits’ Destruction ; and Kangaroo Protection.

A public meeting is about to be held to promote the erection of a Sailors’ Home in Hobart Town.

Both Houses have presented an address to His Excellency the Governor on his approaching departure from the Colony. The Council has rejected the Bill providing for the cost of a building to receive the inmai.es from Port Arthur, thus virtually upsetting the resolution for the breaking-up of that establishment.

Dr. West, who was arrested at Wentworth on the charge of concealing property to defraud his creditors, has been acquitted. The excitement in commercial circles continues. 1

An action against Moss by White, Mills and Co., for wrongful seizures, has been commenced.

At a meeting of Eldin’s creditors a committee of investigation was appointed.
