PROGRESS OF AUCKLAND.

The following notes as to the progress of Auckland appeared in the Tribune of last night, telegraphed by a correspondent : " Shipping is very brisk here. There are four ships, eleven barques, numerous steamers, and a host of small craft in harbor. Building was never ho brisk before. The block of buildings from the Market to Wellesley Street has been rebuilt in fine brick shops. The United Service Hotel, a large building, is in course of construction at the corner of Wellesley and Queen Streets. Whitson's Albert Hotel, just finished, is the finest hotel in Auckland, and is magnificently furnished. There are various shops going up from there to the old Supreme Court. Between the Cross office and "Vaile's Buildings, where King, the chemist, used to be, the foundations for an extensive block of warehouses have been laid. The National Bank has bought Vailes', the draper'/, large shop, and intend spending £3OOO on alterations. G. B. Owen's warehouse is being re-erected, and opposite a large fine block has been completed for Stone Bros., J. and J". Soppett, and others. Another large warehouse is being erected in roar of these in Custom-house Street, also a fine block of buildings on the intake. The. old wooden

buildings between Vulcan Lane and the Auckland Hotel are to be pulled down to give place to brick buildings. Beyond the City Hall, too, another large block-of buildings is being rebuilt. Of course all'these buildings must be o c brick, and the town of Auckland of 1874 will not be known in 1875. Buildings, too, are going up in every direction out of the city. The" city improvements and other public works going on make the trade very brisk while they last."
