THE RAINFALL IN WELLINGTON.
TO THE EDITOR. Silt, —Probably the following table, showing the rainfall for the last four months, will be of interest to some of your readers, although few need be reminded of the fact that latterly we have experienced the wettest and most unpleasant weather that has occurred for many years. Prom January to May the fall was under the average, but from June to the end of September the quantity was, as will be seen, unusually large. The fall for this year to 30th September already reaches 45'83 7 inches, nearly all occurring in the last four months ; and when wo consider that the annual average for Wellington is only 46 inches, it will be seen that we have had rather more than our allowance. It is worth notice that the fall for any twenty-four houra during the above period has never exceeded two inches, which was recorded on the 11th June ; the number of wet days, however, has been very great :
Inches. Days. June 8-262 ... 26 Previous years 5-400 ... 16 July... ... 8-780 ... 21 Previous years 6-461 ... 15 August 5-641 ... 22 Previous years 5-352 ... 16 September ... ... 11-052 ... 23 Previous years 3.900 Yours, &c., ... 14 Eich. B. Goee. October 1.
