TIIEY would seem to be very fond of litigation in Victoria, or there is unusual occasion in the business of people there for resorting to the • Courts for justice. The civil business done in the Police and County Courts is immense, and we see that in the months of July and August not fewer than 723 writs of summons were issued in the Prothonotary's for a total of £179,678 16s. BJd.; 312 judgments by default were signed by the Prothonotary to recover £46,810 3s. Bd., with £1302 13s. 7d. of attorney's costs to be added; executions were issued to enforce payment of £11,472 17s lid.; whilst there were five capiases to hold to bail for £758 2s. There were forty-two fraud summons issued, representing sums amounting to £1197 16s. 3d.; and three wan ants' of commitment signed for non-payment of £72 17s. 2d.
