Large quantities of new goods are being landed, and sales are pushed with an eagerness that counterbalances in some measure the depression caused by the rain. Prices, however, do not improve, and with one or two exceptions there is no variation in rates from our last quotations. Bottled beers aro doll, and, owing to an accumulation of stocks, show a downward tendency, 11s. Cd. to 12s. 3th per doz. being present rates for favorite brands of ales and stouts. Brandies unaltered ; little trade doing. Importers are pushing off their old teas in anticipation of the arrival of the new season’s teas per May, and prices are somewhat lower. Sugars dull; no alteration from last week’s quotations. In feeding grain, oats have slightly improved, raving to the advance in ' price in the Canterbury market, but the demand is trifling, as roost of the buyers are stocked. Butter is still scarce owing to the falling off in the pasture ; but as the inquiry for keg butter for export has also ceased, the demand is limited to the local wants of our continually increasing population. CHP.ISTCHITECH. The Times of the 10th reports Imllness still characterises the grain market. -Scarcclv anything has changed hands during the week, and none but-small coastal shipments to fulfil interprovincial orders have been made. Is.; bacon only, SJd., f.oA). in Lyttelton. Potatoes hare risen greatly in value, £7 being tire nominal quotation, but even at that figure there .is no supply, and, several orders have been sent to Australia. , There is nothing novel to note in the stock market, and nothing doing in stations, the tendency being rather to invest in freeholds. Large importations of Lincoln sheep have taken place, which cannot fail- to improve the character of our long-wools, already very good. We regret to report, however, that heavy losses have occurred to all the importers, in some ships one-half having died. ‘ BY TELEGRAPH. AUCKLAND. September 18.
