Among the items of a Supplementary Civil Service Estimate is the sum of £5883 for the Duke of Edinburgh’s wedding, which is thus made up: —Expenses of Lord Chamberlain and suite, and presents, £3065 ; treaty expenses, £143 ; allowance to Ambassador at St. Petersburg for entertainments, &c., £ISOO ; illuminations of Embassy House at St. Petersburg, £275 ; contribution towards illumination of city of Edinburgh, £3OO, Strengthen Tim Constitution. —The temporary “fillip to nature” given by a dram is of very brief duration, and always followed by injurious reaction.
