New Steamer for Adelaide.—The Euro is the name ■ of a screw steamer just built at Glasgow by Stephen and Sons, for Adelaide owners. She is commanded by Captain E. W. Osborne, late of the brig Jane Bell, who has been superintending her construction during the past eight months. Her carrying capacity is 350 tons, and the ship ha 3 two steamwinches and every appliance for quick despatch at as little expense as possible. She will sail out, leaving about August 4, coming from Glasgow direct for Adelaide. The name Euro is from the native name for mountain kangaroo. It is intended to place this fine steamer in the coasting trade.— Adelaide Observer. The Pilots of Melbourne.—The sea pilots of the Colony intend petitioning Parliament with a view to obtaining a grant of money to the fund established in the service as a provision for aged or infirm pilots incapacitated for duty. This fund wa3 instituted twenty years ago, but in 1800 it was crippled by the defalcations of the then secretary, who absconded with some £6OOO. The repeated drains upon the fund since then have kept it in the impoverished state to which it was nnfortnnately reduced fourteen years ago, and now when twenty out of the twenty-one sea pilots have been a score of years in the service, they have the prospect of approaching disability for such rough work, without the hope of anything beyond a miserable pittance as a retiring allowance. The misfortunes of the pilot companies have been numerous, and the not income of the several pilot companies has not been more th&n adequate for present wants. — Aryus.
