He is by the renowned Clydesdale Stallion Champion (imported), out of the celebrated prize mare Matchless (imported). Lord Raglan took first prize as a 2-year-old colt; as a 3-year-old, he won the first and second prizes, against all ages, at the Agricultural Show, Clutha; at the Agricultural Show, Tokomairiro, he won the first prize, a Silver Medal, against all-comers; at the Agricultural Show, Taieri, 1870, he also gained the first prize, beating twelve others; as a 4-year-old, inTB7l, he gained first prize, a Silver Medal, at the Agricultural Show, Invercargill; and likewise won £4O premium against ten horses the same year.
