Star of the South arrived in harbor about 1 a.m. yesterday from Levuka, Fiji, via Auckland and Napier. The following is a report of her passage since leaving Auckland for Fiji. Sailed from Auckland on Sunday, July 19, at 1 p.m. ; strong S.W. breeze on Tnesdayprevailing ; strong gale from S.S.W. with high confused sea on the following day; .gale still Increasing at 1 p.m., and foreyard carried away in the slings ; towards evening the gale moderated. During the remainder of the passage thick dirty weather till making Kandavau on Saturday, 25th, at daylight; at ten carried away the topsail yard in a heavy gale; arrived at Levuka at 5 p.m., making the passage in six days four hours ; discharged, coaled, and took in cargo, and sailed again on Wednesday, July 29, at 11.45 p.m. Experienced light head winds till Monday, August 3, strong gale from N.W., with dense rain ; on Wednesday the wind moderated ; thence fine weather till arrival in Auckland, completing the passage in seven days and twelve hours. Left on the Bth, arrived at Napier on the 11th, sailing again the same day, and arrived here as above, having experienced fine weather on the trip from the North. The Star sailed for Southern ports yesterday afternoon. The ship "Waikato sailed for Auckland yesterday having original cargo for that port. A number of small craft left the harbor yesterday for various ports. The Aspasia, which put back on the 9th inst., sailed again for Castle Point; the Aurora departed for the East Coast, and the Dagmar for Hokitika. The s.s. Fairy also sailed for Napier. The flags of the vessels in port were at half mast yesterday, out of respect- to the memory of the late Mrs. H. S. M'JCellar, wife of the Collector of Customs, who died on the previous evening. The schooner Unity has gone on to Meech*s slip for the purpose of undergoing an overhaul. We learn from Messrs. Hedmann and Co. that a new schooner—the Levnka, 98 tons register—which has been built at home expressly for the island trade, may be expected to arrive from Europe daily, via Samoa. She left Grimsby, England, on March 8 last, with a full general cargo consigned to the above firm. — Fiji Times, 18th ultimo. ■ H.M.S. Challenger arrived on the 2Sth ultimo from Auckland, at Levnka, on a surveying cruise. H.M.S. Rosario, Captain Dupuis, sailed from Levuka on the 21st ult. for the Line Islands. The barque Reconnaissance has been chartered by the Imperial Government, and was daily expected from Sydney at Levuka when the s.s. Star of the South left, with supplies for the ship 3 of war. Intelligence reached Levuka that a large vesselstated by some to be H.I.M.S. Arcona, by others the Tartar, was ashore at Wallis Island. The Fiji Times of the 18th Instant, says that the Dido got up steam early, and proceeded to the scene of disaster to render all assistance in her power. The same paper of July 23 states that Captain Mansell, of the barque John Wesley, informed them that a French man-of-war was at Tonga, and was to leave for Wallace Island with the Bishop, to visit the Catholic mission stationed there. In all probability the stranded vessel would prove to bo that same ship.
