The Omeo, s.s., Calder, Master, left Melbourne at 6 p.m. on the sth inst., and arrived at the Bluff at 8 a.m. this morning. She brings 25 saloon and 50 steerage passengers, 850 tons of cargo, and 36 horses for various ports. She sailed for Dunedin at noon. London, July 30. Reuter’s special telegrams give the Bank rate of discount as 3 per cent. August 2. The money market was tighter, and an advance in the rate of discount was expected. ' AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Melbourne, August 5. The Assembly met on the 4th, when Mr. Kerferd, detailed the circumstances of the Ministerial reconstruction. He stated that the New Government would follow the policy of its predecessor, excepting that the Reform Bill would not be sent to the Upper HouseA Bill would he presented next session, and the present one would -be brought to a close assoon as possible. The statement was not received with much favor. » Mr. Laugton then explained his reason for withdrawing from the Government. This was in consequence of a disagreement between himself and Mr. Casey on a question of expenses for travelling about the country which he declined to sanction. The City of Adelaide, s.s., has again been chartered by the San Francisco mail service and will leave Sydney for Auckland on August 14, to convey the outward mails. The Tartar, s.s., now on her way from San Francisco, is to be sent back to China. The Cyphrenes will be the next through steamer. The Yictorian Government Astronomer thinks the comet is not Coggia’s. Robert "Watson, aged sixteen, committed suicide at Wodonga, because threatened with an indictment for theft, Gardiner the bushranger was sent to Hongkong. Levy was elected for Maitland by a large majority. The Mikado, s.s., sailed for San Francisco on Saturday. A flood at Kass inundated the town. The brig Ellen Morris has been lost on the Coast of New Caledonia, The crew were saved. Blondin is expected next week. Adelaide, August 3. Flour, dull, £l2 to £l3. Wheat, ss. 64d., afloat. ■ Ross, the leader of Elder’s exploration party, has returned to Strangway’s Creek, and was expected at Stuart’s Creek on Saturday. A hundred and thirty men are thrown out of employment at the Moonta mine, and there is great dissatisfaction. Tasmania, August 3. The Colonial Treasurer estimated the revenue for 1874 at £265,000 ; and for 1875, at £311,000. The expenditure on public works would be £160,000.
