[Press Telegraph Agency.] Napier, Thursday. All the single girls by the ship Winchester have been engaged, and a number of the other immigrants. The weather is very cold and wet for those new arrivals, and there is a good deal of complaint on that account amongst them. One of the seamen, charged with broaching cargo, was discharged for want c f evidence. GrRAHAMSTOWN, Thursday. In the Warden’s Court, in the case of the Pumping Association v. the Central Italy Company, the plaintiffs were nonsuited, and accepted the same verdict, without a hearing, in the case against the Golden Calf Company. Invercargill, Thursday. An influential meeting was held here yesterday, representing the Southland pastoral lessees. Great dissatisfaction was expressed at the proposal made by the Provincial authorities to introduce deferred payments on runs, in violation of the Act of 1865. A petition has already been sent up to the Assembly, and a further statement of the case is now on the way up. A number of runholders have published advertisements cautioning persons against applying for land on deferred payment on their runs, as no land or runs can be legally sold under the deferred payment system ; and they announce that in case any such application be made, it is their intention to oppose the same, and, if necessary, to take legal proceedings for preventing such sale, and ejecting the purchaser. Bluer, Thursday. The brig Carl, from Lyttelton, bound for the Bluff, struck on a rook at the mouth of the harbor. The wind failed her. The rock apparently has gone through her bottom. She appears to have settled down, and is expected to be a total wreck. She is insured in the New Zealand office. The wreck is abandoned. Alexandra, Thursday. The Natives are all busy planting oats Tawhaio himself is putting in crops to a large extent.. Major To Wheoro has purchased a house allotment here, and will permanently reside here.
