[Per Submarine Cable.] Auckland, Monday. The butchers have raised the price of meat a penny, owing to the scarcity of cattle. They threaten to increase it to eightpence, unless cattle-steamers commence running in place of those withdrawn. Captain Andrews, of the Ladybird, reports a comet, visible to the eastward, with a tail of five or six degrees long. Grahamstown, Monday. The butchers have raised the price of meat twopence per pound, owing, it is said, to insufficient supply coastwise. Hokitika, Monday. The s.s. Tararua reports that the mail steamer Pera, with the June mail, was telegraphed as having arrived at Glenelg, six days before her due date. Tauranga, Monday. Captain Morris, M.P.C., addressed his constituents on Saturday night, giving an account of his stewardship. He was well received, and an unanimous vote of confidence passed.
