[Pkess Telegkaph Agency.] New Plymouth, Tuesday. The p.B. Paterson, on entering the Waitara yesterday, got on the North Spit. A fresh coming down the river carried her there. She was expected to be got off by last night's tide, but information haa not yet been received to that effect. It is not expected that she will have sustained much damage. G-hahamstown, Tuesday. The local Orange institution celebrated the anniversary of the " glorious twelfth" last night —one Lodge by a soiree, three others by an evening party and dance ; no outward demonstrations were made. Napiee, Tuesday. The annual meeting of the Napier Athenasum was held last night. A long discussion took place on the question of reducing the subscription to ten shillings. It is now twenty

shillings per annum. The proposal was made in consideration of an additional grant of £IOO offered by the Provincial Council. The meeting adjourned till Monday next, without deciding the point. His Honor J. D. Ormond, w*s re-elected President; Dr. Gilles, secretary, and C. Lyndon, treasurer. The first annual meeting of the shareholders of the Napier Land and Building Society was held last evening. Mr. H. C. Williamson was in the chair. The report and balance-sheet showed a satisfactory state of affairs, and were adopted. Messrs. Brookelin, Rehoff, and Martin were re-elected members of the committee, and Messrs. Grubb. and Craig to be auditors, Cheistchcbch, Tuesday. The Orangemen held a dinner last night to commemorate the battle of the Boyne. Two hundred people were present. Lytteltcw, Tuesday. Arrived—Ship Hereford, in seventy-five days, from Start Point. She has seventy-one immigrants on board. There were five births on board 'and five deaths—two adults and three infants. The single girls were landed to-day,, and the remainder of the immigrants will come ashore to-morrow. Dunedin, Tuesday. Bona fide applications have been received for over one hundred and forty thousand shares in the new Colonial Bank, from the various Provinces of New Zealand, up to date.
