The brigantine Swordfish, of Hobart Town, arrived at 4.30 p.m. She brings the following later European news, received by submarine and overland telegraph : London, June 28. In a battle at Estella, between the Reptiblican army, and the Carlist insurgents, Concha, the Republican General, effected a successful outflanking movement, and captured an important position that had been held by the Carlists. General Concha, following up his advantage, attacked the Carlists' entrenchments at Maro. In the attack the General was killed. On Jids the Republican army retired, but without disorder. Satela succeeded Concha. " J June 30. The details which have been received describe the battle as having restdted. in a serious Republican defeat, with a los3 estimated at 4000. Many officers were killed The war material is safe, and the army has returned to Le Rieu. July 1. In the House of Commons Mr. Butt proposed a motion to restore the Irish Parliament, which should deal exclusively with the management of Irish affairs. Dr. Ball, AttorneyGeneral for Ireland, vigorously opposed the proposal, on the ground that it was fraught with danger to England, and would be utter ruin to Ireland. The discussion has been adjourned till Thursday. The Liberals repudiate Home Rule. The Postmaster-General is arranging with the Peninsular and Oriental Company, with the object of enabling their steamers to pass through the Suez canal. If the arrangement be carried out, it is expected a saving of twenty-four hours will be effected. France. Marshal MacMahon, in a general order i33ued to the troops to-day, say 3 that with the army he will throughout the next seven years maintain order and authority. This absolute allusion to the Septimate has caused irritation amongst the Legitimists, but other parties have approved of it. The Committee of Thirty has rejected the .Constitution Bill introduced by the Left ' Centre, and, having decided to draft a Bill n itself, has entrusted the task to members favorable to MacMahon's personal power for seven yeare. Germany. The Bishops at Frilda have sent a proposal to Berlin with object of being reconciled with the Government. Alexandra, Monday. . A large number of Natives are down to-day with hops and corn produce for sale. There ia great competition, these articles being scarce amongst storekeepers. Dcnedin, Monday. The election of Mayor is appointed to take place on the 21st inst. Messrs. H. F. Walter and Keith Ramsay were nominated to-day. A close contest is expected. Invehcabgill, Monday. Up to this date over 6000 shares in the new Colonial Bank have been applied for in Invercargill. Auckland, Monday. A number of the recently-arrived immigrants are being distributed over the Waikato and other country districts. Arthur Horsnail, who was formerly steward of the Mikado, was found dead in the harbor * to-day.
