LATEST LONDON WOOL SALES. The special report of the European Mail of the 15th of May is dated the 14th of May. It says “ This evening Messrs. Henry P. Hughes and Sons offered 7022 bales, of which 34 were Queensland, 113 Svdney, 3597 Port Philip, 901 Van Diemen's Land, 197 Adelaide, 1537 New Zealand, and 343 Cape. There was an average attendance of both home and continental buyers, but the biddings were very languid. A few lots of greasy wool, however, fetched very good prices, and Port Phillip combing sold fairly well I append the prices realised fora few of the lots offered. Ex Electra, from New Zealand, 15 bales Lincoln hoggett cross-bred, mark an anchor. Is. Cd. ; 14 Lincoln cross-bred, Is. 7d. ; 9, Is. s£d. ; 4, Is. s£d. ; 11 broken, is. 2d. Messrs. Chas. Balme and Co.'s catalogue of yesterday’s date (May 13) comprised 7234 bales, of which 21S0 were Port Phillip, 170 S Sydney, 1572 Cape, 09 Port Natal, 1049 Adelaide, and GSC New Zealand. Nearly all the lots offered were sold. The Queensland wool, ex Martaban and Decapods, fetched very fair prices : 12 bales, mark H&D in diamond, Etton Vale under, realised 2s. 5d.; 9 pieces, Is. 9£d.; 2 locks, Isold. : 1 clothing Ist, mark Green and Co. over Goomburra, 2s. 3jd.; G, mark NV, 2s. Old. ; 1 super, mark M&D over Glengallan, 2s. CJd. 1 half-bred and Leicester, Is. Gd.; 9 locks, Is 3id. On May 12 Messrs. Webster, Darvall, and Co. offered 4945 bales, comprising 3745 Sydney and Queensland, 924 Port Philip, IGS Adelaide, 87 New Zealand, and 24 Cape. The various lots fetched average prices. Ex Adamant, from Canterbury: 5 bales scoured cross-bred, mark Thistle in diamond. Is. Bd.; 1 ditto lambs. Is. 7d.; 3 greasy, mark JF in monogram, lOd. Ex White Eagle, from Adelaide : 2 pieces, Is.; 2 greasy N.Z., Old.; 1 scoured half-bred. Is. 3Ad, HIDES, TALLOW, &c. Messrs. Arming and Cobb report under date London, May 15 Since our last the arrivals from Australasia have comprised thirty-four vessels. Among them were—The Otago and Columbus, from Otago ; the Metope and Cardigan Castle, from Canterbury ; the Celestial Queen, from Port Underwood ; the Hope, Mendosa, and the Douglas, from Wellington ; and Queen Bee from Napier—bringing 2493 salted hides, 543 bales leather, 1152 bales and 3 casks skins, 5 casks seal skins, 7 cases rabbit skins, 199 bales basils, 125 bales hide and gluo-picces, 47 bales hair, 3211 casks 35 tanks and 1 case tallow, ICO tons and 2403 packages bark, and a quantity of horns, bones, and hoofs. Hides.—The demand has continued quiet, but as the quantity brought forward has been moderate, there 4s scarcely any alteration to notice in prices. The sales comprise 4254 hides. New Zealand fair Ist heavy, GRI.; Ist light, CJd, to Ogd.; cow, CAd,; 2nd class, s}d. to sjd. Leather.—The market has been very dull, and only a small proportion of the quantity offered at the public sales has found buyers. The transactions comprise about 9,500 cropsides: light fair to good, 12ld. to 13d.; heavy fair to good, ISJd. to 13id.; do common and middling, iHd. to I2jd.; extra heavy middling to fair, lid. to 12id.; 2nds and damaged, lOjd. to 12d. per lb. The last prices realised show an average decline of id. per lb. on those ruling for the previous month. Tallow has met an improved demand during the past fortnight, and prices, influenced by the general tone of the market, have advanced Is. to Is. Gd. per cwt. for the best qualities of both mutton and beef. Exporters continue to purchase all middling and inferior assortments at full valuations. Wo quote mutton, fair to good, 375. Cd. to 3Ss. Cd.; and beef, fair to good, 355. 9d. to 3Gs. Cd. per cwt. Homs.—No transactions to report. The last prices realised were ;—New Zealand, av. 7£ozs., 9s. per 123. Bones.—Shank, good to fine, £lB ss. to £23 55.; common to fair, £lO 15s. to £l7 17s. Cd.; common grinding bones, £0 ss. to £7 55.; knuckle, £6 17s.'Cd.; hoofs, £C 12s. Cd. to £l3 per ton. The following is about the present position of New Zealand produce in the London market. —Hides quiet in demand, Sydney first heavy at Gjd. to OJd. ; first light, C|d. ; second class, s§d. New Zealand, fair first heavy, CJd,; first light, to second class, sld. to 5Jd. Leather dull at lOld to 13ld. per lb. Hemp irregular of sale, present quotations being, common, £ls 10s. ; fair, £l9 10s.: good, £2l to £22 ; and fine, £27 10s. per ton ; 150 tons Australian tin sold at £94 to £9B per ton. Tallow has advanced Is. to Is. Cd. per cwt. ; the latest rates are mutton fair to good, 375. Od. to 3Ss. Cd, ; beef, 355. 9d. to 30s. Cd, Preserved meats are quoted lower, 4 and C lb. mutton, 5d.; 2 lb. mutton, Gd. ;2, 4, and G lb. beef, Gid. per lb. ; fancy meats also sharing the depression. ■ The supply and consumption of wheat and flour about balance, Adelaide wheat is quoted at OGs. to G7s. per 490 lbs. ; flour, 475. to 48s.
