COMMERCIAL.

CHRISTCHURCH. On Monday last the Times reported The considerably increased value of brandy in other markets particularly in Melbourne—has led to several sales, but at rates that do not represent relative prices; stocks arc fully equal to present requirements. Hennessy’s pale, in quarter cask, has not changed hands at over 10s. Martell’s dark, at 9s. Cd. Case Hennessy’s, 325. ; holders asking 335. Other spirits are slightly improving in value, and Geneva getting verv low in stock. In sugar, a fair business has been done at former rates, but a sale of the Yarravillo (Melbourne) refined, did not go olf as might have been expected ; a very good white crystal changed hands at £37 ; a soft white counter partly sold at £35 10s ; the other number, a soft light counter, was not bid for. A slightly better inquiry has existed for bottled beer, but it is freely met by holders ; Bass’s in hhds : , is in good supply, and difficult to place at £9 15s. for parcels. A*fair trade is doing in teas, to meet immediate wants. DUNEDIN. Messrs McLandress, Hepburn, and Co. report that they offered for sale, by auction, the first shipment of sugars from the Yarraville Refinery of Messrs. Fortune Bros., of Melbourne. The shipment was intended to introduce these now celebrated sugars into the Dunedin market, and in consequence it was offered without the slightest reserve. The trade mustered in force, and while they could not deny that the brightness of the whites, and the exquisitely delicate tinge of the yellows, were such as had never been before seen in this market, the bidding was somewhat slow, owing to a feeling of uncertainty on the part of the buyers how the sugars, especially the yellows, would-take with their customers. Still the whole 3428 mats were disposed of. The following is the result of the sale Finest whites, £3O 2s. Gd. to £3O IGs ; second whites, £35 5s ; and first counters^with fine yellow tinge, £32 7s, 6d. to £32 12s. Cd. per ton, aU In bond.
