ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.

To the Editor of the New Zealand Spectator. Porirua Road, December JJ2, 1854. Sib, — There are two candidates in the field for the Country Districts, both professing to be of no party. I fear, Sir, s either of them will be of little use unless they join tone party or other, if there may be said to be two parties in the Council; for it does not appear that Mr. Wakefield has any party there, the indispensable element to Responsible Government of opposition, being like the last spark of sacred lire confined to one point. But however these two gentlemen may be removed from the ordinary instincts of humanity, I think it quite proper that the electors should know what their principles of action are. I will therefore, with your permission, put to them through your paper, a few questions which many of the electors wish to have answered before recording their votes ; and they will feel obliged by replies through the same^ channel, or if either of them prefer it, through the Government paper. Ist. Will they (sufcuj^QHEhe same condition) bring forward a resolution" ffcommendator) of the abolition of the present abuse, which gives any number of votes to one man, and by which our recently elected member is returned for the Town, and. not foi u& ? 3rd. Will they oppose any and all additions to salaries, which it seems the disinterested gentlemen now in office are desirous of making ? I am, Sir, your obedient servant, A COUNTRY DISTRICT ELECTOR.
