NEW PLYMOUTH. [From the Taranaki Herald, May 17.]
The approaching meeting of the General Assembly was calculated to mike us feol keenly the deficiency of oar Postal commurroaliim with the seat of Government ; and the inconvenience and anxiety which would be felt in this Province, pending the settlement of the momentous questions which will presently engage the attention of those legislative bodies, would opetate with accumulated force in relation to the Provinces further south. The public will therefoie receive with gratification the announcement that a weekly post is now opened between New Plymouth and Wellington — a notirication of which will be found below. ; We have great hope — although at present ignorant of the fact — that this arrangement of a weekly mail has been extended to all the Provinces of this Island, and that we may therefore expect a weekly communication with Auckland also. It will be apparent that the business of convenient communication is but half done until this last improvement is effected, and the Postmaster General may rest assured that no greater boon could be conferred, at this interesting juncture, on the people of this Province.
