FOUNDERS' FESTIVAL, *. .N. N a;t. pitone.

To commemorate the arrival of the 1,200 Immigrants, whose timely occupation of these Islands, by their landing at Pitone in January, 1840, made New Zealand a British Colony. THE FESTIVAL will be held at x PITONE, on Thursday, the 16th February, in the large Building which the Natives there have erectecl for the purpose. It will consist of a , DINNER, to be followed by a BALL. The Dinner will commence at Three o'clock precisely, and the Ball will commence as soon as possible after thelast Toast shall have been disposed of. Dressing-Rooms .for Ladies. By the kind permission of Col. Gold, and the Officers of the 65th Regiment, their BAND will be in attendance at the Festival.

Price of Tickets.

For both Dinner and Ball, Single Tickets for either Lady or Gentleman, 7s.

Double'-Ticketsi.foiUj^y. and Gentleman, 10s. Family Tickets, including- parents and their children, not adults, 10s., with 2a. 6d. for each child. - Tickets ' may be obtained from any of the Stewards until Monday", the 13th February, at 8 p.m., but hot later, because it is indispensably necessary to ascertain some days beforehand for what numbers provision shall be made. 1

For the Ball only— Single Tickets, 23. 6d. each, may be obtained until Wednesday, the 15th February, at 8 p.m.

Church of England Education Society. ADJOURNED MEETING.

'"THE adjourned Meeting- of Members -*- of the Church of .England, will be held at the School Room, Thorndon, on Tuesday Evening, the 21st February, at half-past 7

o'clock. As several very important matters connected with the progress of the Society, and with Education generally, will be brought before the ' meeting, a full attendance is earnestly hoped for j "Parents and Guardians" especially, are re-

quested to attend. In electing the Committee for the present year, it is proposed that the number should be increased to Twelve, and Members wishing to submit names for election, are requested to come prepared with their lists, being careful before hand to ascertain the willingness of the parties named to serve, if elected ;' the election of the Committee will then be proceeded with by scrutineers, to be appointed at the Meeting. By the Rules of the Society, all persons on the Committee must be Members of the Church of

England. | In order, if possible, to meet the views of , persons desirous of obtaining, for their Children, the benefit of the Schools of the Society, but who dissent from the Keligious teaching of the Church of England, it is proposed to discuss the question " whether it would or would not be desirable that such Children might have a purely Secular Education, application being made by the Parents or Guardians to that effect."- > Another subject to be 'brought before the Meeting is— 1 -" the desirability" of separating altogether the Boys and Girls attending- the Schools."
