ANNIVERSARY FETE.

The celebration of the 1-ith Anniversary of the foundation of this settlement took place on Monday Jast. The day was fine but sultry, and the sports, consisting chiefly of boat and horse racing, attracted a large concourse of spectators. The sailing match for decked vessels did not take place; the following cargo boats started :—: — The City of London Burnham Dart The City of London was the winner, performing the first round in 48 mm: and the second round in lh. lm. For the Skiff or Dingy race, the following boats started : — Midge Fanny Fairy Cornwall Carnatic Young Australian This was won by the Midge, performing the distance in lh. 21m.- Three boats started for wß'ermen's race, Hughey's boat coming in the winner. Ihe wind was from the North-west, and very light, and hardly sufficient for the sailing vessels. The Aquatic sports commenced shortly after 1 1 o'clock, those on Te Aro Flat soon after one o'clock. There was a huidle race opsn to all horses, several flat races, a Maori horse race, and a foot race. Mr. Clifford acted as Judge and Mr.' R. Jenkins as Clerk of the Course, and the races seemed to afford great gratification to those assembled on the Flat. At intervals the band of the 65th Regiment added to the enjoyment of the holiday makers by performing a selection of excellent music. We are glad to state that the whole passed off in good spirit, and that no accident occurred to mar the day's amusement. A concert was given in the evening, in the large Assembly Room at Barrett's Hotel, which was very fully attended. A few races and rural sports came off yesterday, the band of the Gsth Regt. being again in attendance, and these terminated the amusements of the Anniversary.
