[From the Empire, September 12.] We have received our files of Adelaide papers up to the 30th ultimo. The Council adjourned on the 28th August, till the 6th September, in order to give •time for the consideration of vote by ballot being introduced into the Constitution Bill. It was supposed if the mover, Mr. Dutton, pressed his measure, the Government would be defeated. The settlers at the Goolwa and Port Elliott had entertained Captain Cadell at dinner, in acknowledgment of his enterprise in -'» opening up its navigation by steam. The Lady Augusta had entered the Murray, and arrived safely at Wellington. Gold was selling at £3 17s. per ounce to cash buyers.
