NELSON. [From the Nelson Examiner, August 20 ]
Accident. — A few days ago a young man named Wastney, "while engaged in the repair of an old flax mill at Wakapuaka, was struck in his mouth by a piece of wood, by the waterwheel being put suddenly in motion, which fractured his lower jaw. The poor fellow is still in a \ery precarious state. Land Salks. — Since the proclamation of the 4th March last for reducing the price of land in the colony came into operation, large sales have been effected in this province, chiefly through the means of scrip granted to the absentees for compensation. All the surveyed land in the Awatcre has been taken up, principally by the flockowners in that district, and the land in the Wairau is also being fust absorbed. In addition to this there are large tracts which have been applied for to be put up to auction, as soon as the Land Commissioner is prepared to certify that the} are not worth ten shillings per acre.
