Company we would rather not engage in mining operations, but can assure you the prospect you have is sufficiently valid to justify any amount of outlay, if well directed. We should be glad to give ,C 36 to £17 per twenty-one cwt, for any quantity of ere of that quality delivered in Newcastle. You may rest satisfied that no spontaneous combustion >vould take place with that ore during: any peiiod of time, either on shipboard or elsewhere. I remain, &c, "W.T. L. Travers, Esq." T. L. Morgan." A specimen of the ore was also submitted for assay to Dr. E. Davcy. Government Assajist,^ at Adelaide, in South Australia, by G. Tinline, Esq.

who gave the following as the result: — "Copper ore (ovde). The green portions of tlii^ specimen are malachite the red poition is; oxide, containing about 70 ppr cent, of copper the black portion about 30 or 40 per cent." The specimens submitted to Messrs. Morgan and Davey were mere surface specimens, and inferior to the greater proportion of the ore since obtained from the mines. On reference to authentic returns of the sales of copner ores at Swansea, it may be seen that of the produce of 100 mines in the United Kingdom, many of which are of the first 1 celebrity, there are but few which exceed one-half the value of that from the Dun Mountain Copper Mines. The report of the contractor, who has been for upwards of thirty years engaged in mining operations, supported by such unbiassed and satisfactory evidence from eminent practical and scientific men, was deemed by the projectors to be conclusive evidence of the favourable prospects of the mine, and they have therefore, in further pursuance of the prospectus nf October 8, 1552, entered into a contract with Mr. Wrey to proceed to England without delay, for the put pose of of raising the capital, and taking the other steps necessary to carry on and woik the mines successfully. In the mean time, in order to afford to residents in the colony an opportunity of investing, the Tiustees have determined to reserve 5,000 shares until the Ist December, 1533, for allotment to applicants in the colony, exclusive of the shares to which contributors to the preliminary fund may become entitled pursuant to the terms of the piospectus of the Rth October, 1552, and of the shsnes to be allotted to the Projectors as hereinafter mentioned. All applications for shares** to be allotted in the colony must be made on or before the 30th November, 1853, and must be in the form given below, and be accompanied by a receipt from the Bankers of the Company for the full amount of the shares, without which, no application will be registered. _ Applications will be registered in the older in which they are received. The allotment will take place on the Ist December, 1853. In any case in which the full number of shares applied for shall not be allotted to the applicant, the excess deposited by him will be repaid in full by a cheque upon tbe Bankeis of the Company. " Persons who have contiibuted to the Preliminary Fund must declaie their intention of converting their subscriptions into shares on or before the 30th November, 1853. Such declaration must be in tbe from given below, and be accompanied by the leceipt given on the psnt of the projectors at the time of contribution, without which no shares will be allotted in respect of such contribution:,. The Projectors have entered into an engagement to „ssik m their interest in the mines to the Provisional Tiustees for tbe use of tbe Company, in consideration of 3,000 paid up shares, which are to be allotted to them without further application. In the establishment of the Company every possible means will be taken to limit the shareholders to the actual amount of their respective^ shares, either by obtaining a Charter of incorporation from the Local Legislature, or otherwise, as sh ill be most advantageous fur the interests of the Company. The Provisional Trustees wtll have full power to invest the capital subscribed in the colony in the purchase of the freehold estate in the mines. Upon the complete establishment of f-he Company in England, the Provisional Tru«tees will execute all necessary deeds for transferring the property held by them for the use of the Company to the permanent Trustees, or to such other peisons as the Directors or Managers of the Company shall diiect. Applications for shares, in the following form, must be addressed to "the Provisional Trustees of the Company: — [Form of application for shares.] To th*> Provisional Tiustees of the Cook's Strait Mining Company, Nelson, New Zealand.
