NELSON. [From the Nelson Examiner, August 27.]
Motoeka Election. — On Friday the 1 9th, the election of two members to represent the I Motueka District in the Provincial Council, took place. Mr. Picard, who had been elected to represent the district in the General Council on the previous day, although he went to the poll, withdrew from the contest at twelve o'clock. At the close of the poll, the numbers stood : — Stephens 48 Parker 36 Picard 24 Steam Saw Mill. — We understand that a steam saw mill has just been imported in the Comet from Melbourne, and that it is the intention of the proprietors to erect it in this settlement. The-continued demand for sawn timber at Melbourne promises to make this speculation a profitable one, and we hope that a favourable site for the mill will be found, as the success of the undertaking will greatly augment the exports from our port.
