Civil Secretary's Office, Wellington, 10th August, 1853.

The management of the Customs Department having been transferred from the Honorable the Commissioners of Her Majesty's Customs in Great Britain to the Governor of this Colony, His Excellency directs it to be notified that in future every officer in that Department during office hours, and whilst on Duty, will be required to appear in an Undress Uniform of the pattern hereinafter set forth. — and the Collectors of Provinces are hereby^ enjoined to* see this^Regulation enforced after a' sufficient time has elapsed' to enable- the' several officers under their survey to procure' the requisite uniforms. They,, are also empowered and required to inflict -a fine on all such officers, to the extent of one «iay's pay for every breach of this regulation, and to keep a Kegister Book of the same. For Collector's Uniform, Landing Waiters,,Tide*.Surveyor, and War,ehousekeeper, a double breasted Blue Frock Coat with' the proper uniform Button for each" rank. , .- , Lockers and Tidewaiters may wear a short ' Blue, Jacket instead of the Frock' Coat.
