To the Free and Independent Electors of the City of Wellington.
rj_ENTLEMEN,— Permit me to congratulate you on the good feeling displayed throughout the whole of the contest now terminated. , To my own Committee, my warmest thanks are due for their prompt determination and undeviating course of action. To those electors who so nobly sustained their rights in freely voting for every man of their choice, it may be truly said that an earnest has been given that on all future occasions, the most able, patriotic, unwavering, and thoroughly consistent Candidates will be returned to their Councils. To the Electors who placed me in so honourable a position on the poll, I have to state that my constant and unremitting exertions shall be directed so as to secure to them, to the utmost of my ability, the largest amount of benefit at the smallest possible expense. With the most hearty thanks to my supporters, and with sincere good wishes for all. I remain, Gentlemen, Your very obedient servant, JOHN WALLACE. Wellington, August 13, 1853.
