ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE. To the Editor of the New Zealand Spectator. Wellington, August 4, 1853.
Sir, — You will much oblige by inserting the following observations to the Electors of the Province of Wellington :—: — Fellotv Electors — Guard against voting for any one that has not taken the pledge — 1 allude to the pledge of retiring at the end of any session if their conduct should not be approved of by their constituents. In the first place, gentlemen, those candidates that have not taken the pledge are only offering a gross insult upon us as electors, and also upon those individuals who have pledged themselves to retire when called upon. Those as candidates come forward a"nd tell us we are to depend upon their bygone conduct and trust them in future. I ask any of those gentlemen if they will trust us. No, genilernen, they cannot trust themselves. In my opinion those individuals do not wish to represent us, but themselves, and to retain their seat in spite of their constituents and the public at | large. Gentlenen, if such conduct is allowed, we must all have a seat in council. lam perfectly sure no one will dispute our right as selfrepresentatives. 1 am your obedient servant, J. S. » To the Editor of the Neiv Zealand Spectator. Wellington, August 5, 1853. Dear Sir, — I beg to forward you the enclosed which was found on the Beach near the Royal Hotel. I am, Yours, &c. PAUL PRY.
