Gentlemen, — Having received so many assurances of support .as, a Candidate for the honor of being one of your Representatives in the Legislative and Provincial Council, I feel it my duty to place my humble services at your disposa l ; and I pledge myself to give support to the opinions which you collectively approve and dictate, or resign, if called upon to do so by a majority of my Constituents; — having no personal- interest -tq serve, my time and alten^ tion shall be devoted to the best interests of the Colony. I am not, nor ever will be, a party man ; my only object will be, the" promoting- your-in-terests, and watching over the general welfare and prosperity of the working class, the abolition of sinecures and unnecessary, offices, a tax upon land as the best means of destroying monopoly j cheap land and small farms, which I consider will in a great measure put down the irritating effect of artificially raising the value of the necessaries of life, the extension of Roads, and opening up the country, Schools, Wharfs, &c. I shall adhere steadily to these principles, supporting such measures as tend to smooth difficulties, and increase domestic comfort. ; I have been living amongst you for the last eleven years, and as you think me a proper person to represent you, it will be a source ofmuch gratification to me to devote my time and my best energies to secure the happiness and prosperity of the Colony at large.
