To the Independent Electors M the City of Wellington.
Q.ENTLEMEN,— The time has now v^ arrived for us ta be up and doing. It behoves us, therefore, cautiously and carefully to look around and judge for ourselves as to> the fitness of each party who presents Mmself before us as a Candidate at the approaching* Election. — Gentlemen, I claim the honour of contesting a seat in the House of Representatives of the People. I can gay with a becoming confidence that / hare the" interests of the people of the City of Wellington at heart, — that their grievances shall be mine, — their means of redress through me. I have had opportunities of knowing, from personal intercourse with the main body of the working class, their wishes — their wants ; and I pledge myself to forward in every way their immediate' interests. I shall not, by much fair speech and by a profusion of promises and clap trap, attempt to gain your vote and interests ; but by sincerity of purpose, I hope to establish; for myself that popularity which neither titles nor riches can at all times buy. Gentlemen, I have the honour to be, Your Fellow-Citizen, DOCTOR JOHN W ATSON. St. John* Cottage, Mount Victoria, Wellington, May 28, 1853.

r PHE Proprietor of the Wellington Candlk Factory begs to observe, for the information of the Public, that from the many and varied sources from whence he has been favoured with information respecting the New Light, there is not a doubt on his mind that the whole question will be set at rest. Of course all are aware of rise great sensation lately created in nearly all the families of Wellington with regard to the New and Brilliant Light. The Proprietor of the Wellington Candle Factory would wish it to be understood that he has a most decided dislike to anything that bears the semblance, or that even might be construed into anything in the shape of puffing 4 yet with due delicacy, and with great satisfaction to himself, he has ascertained beyond a shadow of a doubt, that these Brilliant Lights proceed from the ends of the Candles made at his Factory. This he has ascertained from the best authority, and beyond the possibility of a doubt, and consequently that they are not from the "Sydney Mould Candles," but are as superior to them as the purest sperm candles are to * common dip. The Proprietor is not now going to instance any of the many proofs of their superiority to the Sydaey candles ; nor would he wish for one moment to injure Mr. Price ; but at the same time he would recommend those who have not tried the Wellington Candles, by a fair trial to test to their satisfaction the superior qualities of his Candles ; and he would farther recommend that families will be particular, and always inquire at all the respectable Stores in town for the Wellington Factort Candles, where they may be had in any quantity, say from half a Candle to half a ion. ' N.B. — Wanted, a couple of active Assistants in the Wellington Factory, to whom liberal wages will be given* April 30, 1853.
