NEW SOUTH WALES. [From the Launceston Examiner.]

Sir Charles Fiizroy had declined to act upon his own responsibility in respect to the suspension of the Gold Fields' Management Act. The Colonial Secretary had gone up to the Turoa to examine into the practical working of the measure. Public attention was 'strongly directed to the necessity for erecting a light-house at Cape Huwe. Major-General Sir Robert Nickle has been appointed to commuud the troops in New South Wales. Major-General Sir Robert Nickle was born in 1756. He entered the. army in 1801, and attained the rank of colone in 1838 ; served before Buenos Ayres in 1807, and led the forlorn-hope on the sth July, when he was severely wounded ; served throughout the whole of the Peninsular war, and received a medal for Nivelle ; afterwards distinguished himself in the American war ; and finally volunteered his services in Canada in 1837. It has been determined to commence the erection of the Exchange Buildings without delay. It is calculated the rent of the stores which are to be formed in the basement story will at once give a good return for the expense which will be incurred in that portion of the building. The Dolores, from Valparaiso, put into Newcastle, had 400 alpacas on board for N. S. Wales, and also a considerable number of those beautiful little animals, known by the name of the Chinchilla.
