Court Marital on Lieut. Mitchkll, H.M, 75th. — Head Quarteis, Simlah, 9th November. — At a general Court Martial assembled at Umballa, on Monday, the 1 8th day of October, 1552, Lieutenant Campbell Mitchell, of her Majesty's 75th Regiment of Foot, was arraigned upon the following charges, viz. : — Ist. For behaving in a scandalous, infamous manner, unbecoming the character of an officer and a gentleman, in having, at Umballa, on the 26th of August, 1552, when playing at the game of billiards with Capt. G. Hamilton, of the same regiment, intentionally and repeatedly played in an unfair manner, with intent thereby to gain an undue advantage over Capt. Hamilton, and to cheat him of the amount he had staked on the result of the game. 2nd. For conduct unbecoming the character of an officer and a gentleman, in having, at the same time and place, unwarrantably applied the epithet " damned liar" to Lieut. J. R. S. Fitzgerald, of the same regiment. Finding. — The Court, on the evidence before them, are of opinion, that the prisoner Lieut. Campbell Mitchell, of H.M. 75th Regiment of Foot, is guilty of both the charges preferred against him. Sentence. — The Court, having found the prisoner guilty of the charges preferred agains him, do now sentence him, the said Lieut* Campbell Mitchell, of H.M. 75th Regiment o1o 1 Foot, to be cashiered.
