The Queen ba» conferred a baronetcy upon ■ Sir SaraoeJ George Bonbara, X.C.8., Governor of Hong Kong and its dependencies. The Sultan of Borneo, whose death bad been for some time expected, expired oa or about the 15th of November. A short lime previous to the Chusan's departure for Singapore, the English barque John Simpson bad put into Batavi*, where the captain applied to the authorities for assistance, and some marines were scot alongside. The mutineers, however, refused to let them come on board aod pelted them with stones. At length tbe order being given to " fire," at tbe first discharge one man was killed and another woauded ; afiei which the marines boarded, and tbe other mutineers were removed to the guard-sbip. The John Simpson was going to England with a crew of Malays. . Tbe steamer Shanghai was to leave Singapore aiout 17'b of April, with the English mails of tbe Btb March, and may be expected here about the Ctb May, as the P. and O. Company's steamers are not to call at Swan River. Freights from Singapore had experienced a slight advance. A large amount of tonnage was still required to load rice at A 1 yab for ports in Europe, the (reigbts being £4 to England, and £4 10s t to the Continent.
