OTAGO. [From the Otago Witness, March 5.]

The barque Tasmania, from England direct, arrived at Otago on the 26th ultimo, after a voyage of 113 days. She had put into Maderia for a supply of water. A serious mutiny occurred on board while the barque was lying at Maderia, the crew refused to proceed on the voyage or to weigh anchor. The latter difficulty was overcome by the prompt assistance of the passengers, and the mutiny was quelled by the firm and determined conduct of Captain MacMillan. Since then the voyage is described as being agreeable and remarkably quick, occupying only 88 days. -° The Witness gives the following account of an accident which occurred to the Sub-Collec-tor of Customs at Otago : — " Mr. Shand was on his way from Port Chalmers to Bunedin with a sum of money to be paid into the Sub-Treasury. While hauling in the sheet of the sail, the rope suddenly gave way, and Mr. Shand was precipitated into the water, whereby he lost about JJIBO in gold, and narrowly escaped being drowned. We understand that a memorial has been Addressed to his Excellency, numerously signed by all classes praying that Mr. Shand may tye exonerated from the payment of this money."
